Obsessive Blogging Behaviour »

I would like to think that most bloggers draft out posts in order to revise them and remove hyperbole, as I do. For me, posting a raw entry would be like entering a room naked — woefully announcing any unpolished bits and generally embarrassing for everyone. In trying to avoid awkward naked blogs I have developed a weird obsessive behaviour.

To give myself a rough guideline I often keep paragraphs to a limit of three to four lines. However now I keep having meltdowns every time the paragraphs in a post are uneven. A post can only have paragraphs that have an equal amount of lines. Any aberrations and I suddenly find myself turning into a foaming linguistic lumberjack, chopping down words where ever possible.

I possibly need therapy or a rehabilitation clinic for bloggers gone bad. Instead I am going to call upon other bloggers who I am sure are just as mentally unstable. What are your obsessive blogging behaviours?

I have a few formatting issues – e.g. whenever I float an image to the right, I want the text to wrap around the image just right. If it doesn’t, I’ll painstakingly edit and re-edit the text until it does!

Wow – sounds like you do need therapy! But in a good way =]
You know the whole..”Read More” function? Well, this allows you to have more than three or four paragraphs that won’t bore the visitors so you don’t have to worry about only limiting yourself to three or four paragraphs :)
Just slowly train yourself out of it. =]

I… don’t have any? I just type, type, type and press post. Then I read it over all published, and if I see errors, I fix them. If I miss some, it’s not a big deal. I like my blogging to seem conversational. As if, I’ve just sat down and decided to tell you something. So, it doesn’t really follow any structure. :)

You know I don’t really edit it too much before I post it. I’ll read over it to make sure I don’t have any spelling errors, but that’s about it.

Sometimes I have to post it and see it on my site before I really see any mistakes. I should probably pay better attention. *sigh*

I’m obsessed with the formatting of my posts, just like Amanda says. I frequently find myself fine-tuning my CSS in the middle of a post, creating post-specific classes just to make this header look right or add some more white space in a special list, etc.
And then I laugh at myself. And add an extra 0.1em there.
I don’t know if I need therapy, but I hate reading text that is not well set, and charity begins at home.

Well, I’m a bit of an obsessive blogger but that’s just cause English isn’t my mother tongue, so I’m often wondering whether what I wrote makes sense and people can actually understand it. So I’d draft a post, then publish it, then read it several times to fix the grammatical errors, then “unpublish” it again, the fix it one more time, until I’m satisfied to press “open post” again. I’m often obsessive with that…

    Nice post, Lil!!

Well when I have to post a long entry, I do make a draft. I worry over how my writing style presents myself. Sometimes I see myself as too formal that I sound boring. I also worry if I babble too much or if I’m forgetting to include any details. Argh.
