Suggestions for Google Reader »

I usually deal with a substantial amount of feeds hence why I have no time to comment any more. I am subscribed to around two to three hundred feeds which leaves me with an average of about three thousand unread messages every couple of days (some are very intensive). Considering I am adding feeds every week I would categorise myself as a heavy user. Therefore I have a few suggestions for Google Reader which I feel would make my life easier as a compulsive blog addict.

Bulk Drag and Drop: I find the little check-boxes a bit grating after a while, especially if I am breezing through thirty odd feeds I have added recently. I would prefer a bulk drag and drop system in the sidebar on the main page.

Prioritising Feeds: As aforementioned, I do not have time to comment on the blogs that matter to me. As such I would like to be able to quickly prioritise those blogs which are important or relevant to me, instead of manually adding them to a secondary folder/tag through the other panel (since dragging to multiple folders does not exist on the main page).

Automatic Tagging: It is painstaking to tag all my feeds. Sometimes I am not even sure myself what I am adding. It would be rather easy for the reader to create a word cloud of terms from the feed and come up with suggestions for tags — or provide suggestions from other users such as when bookmarking in Delicious.

Collecting Comments: Similar to BackType — I would like to see that my comments are displayed alongside my feeds. I want to be able to see where I have been and where I have commented from my feed reader. Should not be too hard as I use the same e-mail for Google that I do to comment.

Integration of Social Media: I use Facebook and Twitter feeds to keep myself updated on what’s happening without having to visit the website directly and waste eons procrastinating. Why not include some basic tools which recognise social networks and allow me to interact with them in a restricted way through the reader itself?

Feel free to add your own suggestions to the mix. Or indulge my curiosity — how do you personally use feed readers and what feed reader do you use?

I just added 600-ish local blogs to my feed reader, and am now trying to figure out the ones I want to keep and the ones I don’t. And Google Reader makes it hard. I want a “Unsubscribe” button RIGHT on the post that I am reading. :P
